Seasoning Tips
"Seasoning" is the process of allowing oil to be absorbed into the iron, creating a non-stick, rustproof finish. Care
1. NEVER wash or scour cast iron with detergents.
1. Wash with hot, soapy water, and a stiff brush. Rinse and dry.
2. Oil cookware (inside and out) with MELTED solid vegetable shortening. Heat cast iron to 350 degrees for 45 minutes to 1 hour.
2. Immediately following cooking, while hot, wash with hot water and a stiff brush to remove any stubborn food particles. Dry thoroughly. Spray with cooking spray and dry before storing or using.
3. Rust or sticking are signs of inadequate seasoning. If this occurs, wash completely and re-season.
4. Cast iron cookware will turn black with age.
